This aquamarine showcases the refreshing blue coloration that has made the gemstone a favorite among jewelry designers and collectors. Its cushion cut combines softly rounded corners with a classic geometric outline, creating an elegant presentation that complements the gemstone's natural color.
Aquamarine is the blue to greenish blue variety of beryl, the same mineral family that includes emerald, morganite, and heliodor. Its characteristic coloration is associated with iron within the crystal structure. The name aquamarine comes from the Latin words for seawater, reflecting the gemstone's long-standing association with clear ocean waters.
Although aquamarine is sometimes heat-treated to reduce greenish tones and produce a purer blue appearance, this specimen is unheated. Its blue coloration has been retained without heat enhancement, an appealing characteristic for collectors and jewelry enthusiasts who appreciate gemstones in their natural color state.
Mozambique is an established source of gem-quality aquamarine and other members of the beryl family. The country's diverse pegmatite deposits have produced attractive aquamarines in a range of blue and blue-green shades, contributing to its importance in the international colored gemstone trade.
At 10.72 carats with dimensions of 15.5 x 12.5 x 9.2 mm, this gemstone offers considerable visual presence. Its substantial size and elegant cushion shape make it especially well suited for a custom statement pendant, where its blue coloration and attractive proportions can be prominently displayed. It would also make a beautiful centerpiece in a collection of larger colored gemstones.
With a hardness of approximately 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale, aquamarine offers good resistance to scratching, although reasonable care should be taken to protect it from sharp impacts. Its combination of substantial size, Mozambique origin, and unheated character gives this individual gemstone distinctive appeal.
An impressive earth-mined blue aquamarine offering beautiful natural color, timeless cushion-cut styling, and substantial size for a custom pendant or gemstone collection.
